Duluth, MN – An Arctic air mass is gripping Minnesota this week, bringing dangerously cold temperatures and extreme wind chills. Residents should prepare for life-threatening cold, with wind chills as low as -45°F in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect through Tuesday at 10 a.m., with subzero temperatures persisting for much of the week. Overnight lows will drop below -20°F, while daytime highs will struggle to reach the teens. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, increasing the risk of frostbite in minutes.
Tuesday will see a high near 7°F, with blustery northwest winds keeping conditions frigid. Wednesday offers little relief, with a high near 10°F and continued gusty winds. By Thursday, temperatures may rise slightly, reaching 20°F under mostly sunny skies.
Drivers should use caution, as icy conditions and reduced visibility may impact roadways, including I-35 and Highway 53. Officials urge residents to dress in layers, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable individuals.
The cold snap is expected to ease by the weekend, but forecasters warn that another Arctic blast could return next week.
