Milwaukee, WI – A fast-moving system is hammering eastern Wisconsin with gusty winds and light snow this afternoon, creating slick roads and sharply reduced visibility just in time for the Wednesday evening commute. Blowing and drifting snow has already been reported across several counties, and travel disruptions are expected through the remainder of the day.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. for Marquette, Green Lake, Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Dodge, Washington, and Ozaukee Counties. Light snow continues, with an additional half-inch possible. According to forecasters, wind gusts up to 50 mph will keep snow lofted across open stretches, especially along I-41, I-43, and Highway 151. According to Wisconsin DOT, visibility may drop suddenly as winds peak late this afternoon.
The agency warns that tree branches weakened by recent freeze cycles could snap under the strongest gusts. Drivers returning from work or early holiday travel should expect intermittent whiteouts, especially north of Milwaukee and toward the Sheboygan lakeshore. Slick conditions are most likely on untreated secondary roads and elevated bridges.
