Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Near-freezing temperatures overnight may lead to black ice and slick travel conditions across Milwaukee into early Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, water freezing on road surfaces could create slick spots late tonight through Thursday morning. The greatest risk is on untreated and secondary roads, as well as bridges, overpasses, and highway ramps.
Patchy fog or freezing fog may also develop in some areas, further reducing visibility and increasing the risk of icy conditions. Even where roads appear dry, thin layers of ice may be present.
Forecasters urge drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and remain alert for sudden changes in road conditions. Pedestrians should also use caution on sidewalks and parking lots.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later Thursday morning as temperatures rise above freezing, but isolated slick spots may linger in shaded or untreated areas.
Residents commuting early Thursday should allow extra travel time and monitor local road conditions.
