MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Warm fall air and gusty south winds are returning to southeast Wisconsin, driving high waves along Lake Michigan beaches and a few showers early this week. Beachgoers and boaters should stay alert as waves build and currents strengthen through Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan, a moderate to high swim risk continues for beaches from Racine to Sheboygan, with dangerous currents possible on southerly facing piers and breakwalls. The risk eases Tuesday afternoon as winds shift west, but caution is urged for anyone near the shoreline.
Drivers may also face spotty rain and gusty crosswinds on I-94 and I-43 between Madison and Milwaukee Monday afternoon. Winds could gust up to 30 mph, especially in open stretches. Motorists should secure light outdoor items and plan for slower travel during heavier showers.
Temperatures remain unseasonably warm Monday, reaching the mid-70s before cooler, calmer air returns midweek. Sunshine dominates again by Wednesday and Thursday, offering perfect conditions for pumpkin patch visits or fall park leaf viewing. No severe weather or frost is expected this week.
The NWS notes that spotter activation is not needed, though residents should continue monitoring local updates as patterns shift toward more typical October cool-downs later this week.
