Milwaukee, Wisconsin – After a calm and sunny weekend, southern Wisconsin faces a serious storm threat Monday night, with damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes possible across the region.

According to the US National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Level 4 out of 5 severe risk has been issued for parts of southern Wisconsin for Monday evening, with storms most likely after 6 p.m. Areas including Madison, Monroe, and Janesville are expected to see the strongest impacts, with individual storms capable of producing significant hail and isolated tornadoes.

Travel could become hazardous across major routes like I-39/90 and Highway 151, especially during the evening commute. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge cell phones, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Winds could gust strongly even outside thunderstorms, raising concerns about downed branches and isolated power outages.

This is the highest severe storm risk southern Wisconsin has seen so far in 2025, similar to early-season outbreaks seen in past Aprils. Storms could continue into early Tuesday morning before clearing east.

Severe weather warnings remain possible through Monday night, and additional updates are expected as storm timing and intensity become clearer.
