Milwaukee, WI – A prolonged period of higher winds will create high waves tonight through Tuesday night, prompting a Beach Hazards Statement for Lake Michigan beaches in southeast Wisconsin. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Milwaukee/Sullivan issued the alert, warning residents to stay out of the water and avoid piers, jetties, and breakwalls.
According to the NWS, the Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties from 9 PM Monday to 1 AM Wednesday. Forecasts predict wave heights between 4 to 6 feet, posing life-threatening risks due to dangerous currents. Residents and visitors are urged to obey all posted flags, signs, and closures to ensure safety.
The NWS emphasizes the importance of adhering to beach warning flags, which indicate varying levels of hazard. A red flag signals the beach is closed to the public, while other flags denote high, medium, or low hazards, as well as the presence of dangerous marine life.
