Louisville, KY – Thunderstorms could sweep across southern Indiana and central Kentucky late Thursday night, bringing large hail, damaging winds, and bursts of lightning to the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, storms may initiate upstream Thursday evening and move into Indiana by nightfall. If the system develops as anticipated, it could reach Kentucky overnight, impacting cities like Louisville, Owensboro, and Bowling Green.
A Level 2 “Slight Risk” zone spans from southern Illinois and Indiana into parts of western Kentucky, while a Level 1 “Marginal Risk” extends as far east as Lexington and Covington. The primary hazards include quarter-sized hail, wind gusts over 50 mph, and locally heavy rain, which may cause brief power outages and hazardous driving conditions.
Residents are urged to charge devices and secure outdoor items before sunset Thursday. Those in mobile homes or driving overnight should monitor alerts and consider alternate plans, especially in areas where storms may intensify quickly.
Most of Thursday will feel summery, with warm, dry conditions ahead of the system. If storms materialize, this will mark one of the more active spring evenings for the lower Ohio Valley this year.
More updates are expected by Thursday afternoon as confidence in storm timing and track improves.
