Quad Cities, IL/IA – A powerful storm system is set to sweep through the Quad Cities region Monday, delivering heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms. Rainfall totals could reach up to 1.5 inches, prompting concerns about flooding in urban areas and low-lying locations near the Mississippi River. Commuters and residents are urged to monitor conditions and prepare for potential delays on major roadways like Interstate 80.
According to the National Weather Service, the first wave of rain is expected during the day Monday, followed by a secondary, more intense round in the evening. Thunderstorms embedded in the system may result in localized downpours, increasing the risk of water pooling in streets and basements. Flood-prone areas west of the Mississippi are particularly at risk for disruption.
By Tuesday morning, rainfall totals will vary, with some areas seeing over an inch and others exceeding 1.5 inches. Ponding is likely to occur, particularly in poorly drained neighborhoods and low-lying intersections. Motorists should avoid driving through flooded areas and check local traffic updates before heading out.
The wet weather isn’t limited to Monday; the extended forecast calls for additional chances of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures will remain mild, hovering in the mid-50s through midweek. By Thursday, a cold front is expected, possibly bringing drier and cooler conditions to the region.
