Quad Cities, IL/IA – The Quad Cities region may see its first taste of winter weather Thursday, as a cold front moves through, bringing a chance of rain and snow. While accumulations remain uncertain, residents are advised to prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will drop to the low 30s overnight Wednesday, creating conditions favorable for rain to transition into light snow early Thursday morning. Highs Thursday are expected to stay near 44°F, with breezy conditions making it feel even colder.

By Thursday night, temperatures will dip further into the low 30s, increasing the likelihood of snow showers. Although significant accumulation is not expected, bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads may become icy. Commuters should exercise caution, especially during the evening hours.

The extended forecast for Friday shows partly sunny skies, with highs reaching the low 40s. However, temperatures will remain near freezing overnight, which could extend the potential for icy patches into the weekend.

Motorists are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and prepare vehicles for winter weather by checking tire pressure and carrying an emergency kit. For real-time road conditions, visit state department of transportation websites or listen to local traffic updates.
