The New Madrid Seismic Network confirmed the quake struck early Wednesday at a depth of 7.6 kilometers. Residents across the tri-state area, including parts of Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky, reported feeling light shaking.

Though minor, the earthquake occurred near the New Madrid Seismic Zone, an area known for significant seismic history. This region experienced massive quakes in the early 19th century, making today’s event a reminder of the area’s geological activity.
