Chicago, IL – A salmonella outbreak linked to organic and cage-free eggs sold in Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin has led to 65 illnesses and two dozen hospitalizations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The recall, issued on September 6, involves eggs from Milo’s Poultry Farms and Tony’s Fresh Market. These eggs were distributed to stores and restaurants across the Midwest, including Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
Symptoms of salmonella—such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps—can appear within six hours to six days after consumption. Most recover within a week, but young children, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems may need hospitalization.
The CDC warns consumers in affected states to check for recalled organic and cage-free eggs to prevent further spread of the illness.
