Chicago, IL – As Juneteenth is observed as a federal holiday on Thursday, June 19, 2025, residents across the Midwest, including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, will experience various business and service closures and adjustments.
According to federal guidelines and information from major service providers, most federal government offices, including the United States Postal Service (USPS), will be closed today. This means there will be no regular mail delivery, caller service, or Post Office Box service. However, Priority Mail Express will remain available. Most banks and credit unions, including the Federal Reserve System, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, J.P. Morgan Chase, Bank Midwest, The First National Bank in Amboy, and Signature Bank, will also be closed. Customers are advised to plan banking transactions accordingly, as online banking and ATMs will still be accessible, but transactions may not post until Friday.
Conversely, many private businesses are expected to remain open. FedEx and UPS will generally operate with normal pickup and delivery services. While some FedEx Office and UPS Store locations may have modified hours, most will be open. Retail stores, restaurants, and grocery stores are largely expected to be open, though it is always recommended to check with individual establishments for their specific hours of operation before visiting. Universities and state government offices may vary in their observance; for example, the University of Illinois Chicago and Carbondale City offices will be closed today.
