Morton Grove, IL – A stolen Illinois State Hockey Championship trophy has been recovered after it was mysteriously dropped off overnight earlier this week.
The trophy disappeared from Mt. Prospect Ice Arena during the Tier II State Championships. Surveillance footage showed an unknown individual walking out of the arena with the trophy around 4 p.m. Authorities launched an investigation and asked the public for help identifying the suspect.
According to AHAI Hockey, the trophy was found outside Gunzo’s in Morton Grove with no explanation. Store staff contacted officials to return it. Investigators are still working to determine who took the trophy and why.
Authorities encourage anyone with information to reach out to executive.director@ahai2.org. The trophy is now set to be displayed at the United Center for the upcoming High School State Championships.
