Chicago, IL – As Christmas approaches, many in the Midwest are wondering if snow will blanket the region for the holiday.
According to the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center, the December 20–26 outlook shows above-normal temperatures likely across much of the Midwest. States including Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri are expected to see mild weather. Snowfall chances diminish in areas where temperatures are expected to remain above freezing. Meanwhile, precipitation is predicted to be near normal, meaning any snow may struggle to accumulate.
The northern Midwest, including parts of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, has a slightly better chance of seeing a white Christmas. These areas are forecast to remain closer to normal temperatures, which could support snow formation if precipitation aligns.
Historically, the northern Midwest has a stronger likelihood of snow on Christmas, with cities like Minneapolis averaging a 75% chance. However, for those in areas further south, a white Christmas remains unlikely unless temperatures drop unexpectedly.
To prepare for the holiday season, residents should monitor updated forecasts closer to Christmas Day for more accurate predictions.
