Grand Rapids, MI – Western Michigan, Northwest Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin are on high alert as severe weather is expected to sweep through the region on Monday. The US National Weather Service Grand Rapids issued a warning for damaging winds, heavy rain, and hail up to 1 inch in diameter.
According to the National Weather Service, the first round of storms is predicted to hit from midnight through 5 a.m. Monday, with another round expected Monday night. Wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph, posing a significant threat to structures and power lines. Locally heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.
On Sunday night, storms are expected to develop over Wisconsin and move southeast toward Lower Michigan. The potential for strong to severe storms exists, bringing similar threats of damaging winds and large hail.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, stay indoors during severe weather, and monitor local forecasts for updates. Precautions should be taken to protect property and ensure safety. The National Weather Service advises residents to have a plan in place for potential power outages and flooding.
