Nashville, TN – Frigid air and light snow are expected across Tennessee as an arctic cold front arrives Sunday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) reports snow showers and flurries will accompany the cold front, with up to four inches of snow predicted in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. Other areas will see lighter accumulations. The arctic air will also bring dangerously cold wind chills, dropping to 10 to 15 degrees below zero in mountain regions and near zero across the state’s lower elevations Sunday night.

According to the NWS, icy roadways, especially in higher elevations and on secondary roads, may create hazardous driving conditions. The cold will intensify early next week, with Monday night wind chills reaching 5 to 10 degrees above zero in low-lying areas.

Residents are urged to prepare for these severe conditions. Officials recommend dressing in layers, covering exposed skin, and limiting outdoor activity. The NWS advises checking on vulnerable neighbors, family, and pets.
