Philadelphia, PA – The National Weather Service is warning of a significant winter storm set to impact the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Monday night into Tuesday morning, bringing snow, freezing rain, and hazardous travel along the I-95 corridor from Pennsylvania through New Jersey and into New York City.

Forecasters say a low-pressure system developing along the Gulf Coast will track northeast, spreading widespread snow and ice into the region by Monday evening. Snow is expected to begin late in the day and intensify through the overnight hours, creating slick and icy roads during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.

The heaviest snow is likely north and west of I-95, where more than 6 inches could accumulate, while areas closer to the coast—including Philadelphia, Trenton, and Newark—may see a mix of sleet and freezing rain before changing to snow.

The Weather Prediction Center notes that travel disruptions are likely, especially on untreated surfaces, ramps, and bridges. Widespread moderate-to-major impacts are expected on highways, potentially creating nightmare travel conditions for commuters across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Drivers are urged to delay travel where possible, monitor local alerts, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions as the storm evolves Monday evening.
