Baltimore, MD – The Mid-Atlantic is preparing for several chances of rain through the end of the week, with the possibility of locally heavy rain, according to the US National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center. While beneficial for dry regions, the expected rainfall may disrupt outdoor plans. River flooding is not anticipated at this time.
According to the forecast, an approaching cold front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the Susquehanna basin Wednesday evening. Rainfall amounts are expected to be between 0.1 to 0.5 inches. On Independence Day, the front will stall over the region, leading to thunderstorms and locally heavy rain in the afternoon, with amounts ranging from 0.25 to 1.25 inches.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, PA, has also issued a severe weather outlook for Wednesday, indicating a few thunderstorms may develop over eastern Ohio and extreme northwest Pennsylvania. Although the likelihood of damaging wind gusts is low, the potential exists. Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and ensure they can receive alerts, especially if outdoors.
As the week progresses, low pressure will bring another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms on Friday, with expected rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 0.75 inches. While steady stages and small rises are expected on Mid-Atlantic rivers, significant flooding is not likely.
