Harrisburg, Pa. – Much of the Mid-Atlantic is bracing for heavy rain through Sunday, with parts of central Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia expected to see nearly 2 inches of accumulation, raising concerns for travel and stream rises.

According to the National Weather Service’s Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, a low-pressure system moving through the region today will bring steady rainfall into Thursday night. A second, stronger system is set to arrive over the weekend, increasing the likelihood of additional 1+ inch totals across areas from State College to Morgantown.

Some of the highest rainfall amounts are projected near State College (2.02”), with 1.57” possible in central Pennsylvania and 0.77” in parts of Virginia. While widespread river flooding is not forecast, the NWS cautions that streams and smaller tributaries may rise 1–2 feet, particularly by Sunday morning.

Motorists should use caution on slick roads, especially along I-80, I-99, and U.S. Route 322. Residents in low-lying areas should secure outdoor items and clear storm drains.

Rain is expected to taper briefly Friday before returning Saturday. Additional advisories are possible, especially if rainfall rates increase or localized flooding emerges.
