Gaylord, MI – A winter storm watch has been issued for parts of Michigan, where forecasters say ice accumulations could reach up to half an inch by early Saturday. The storm is expected to begin Friday afternoon, bringing a dangerous mix of sleet, freezing rain, and gusty winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the first wave of wintry precipitation is set to impact northern sections of both Lower and Upper Michigan from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. Some areas may see sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches, while ice totals could range between two-tenths and one-half inch. Wind gusts may reach up to 35 mph, increasing the risk of downed power lines and tree limbs.

Officials warn of hazardous travel conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Commuters are urged to avoid travel during the Friday evening and Saturday morning hours if possible. Power outages and tree damage are likely in the hardest-hit areas.

Residents should prepare emergency kits, charge electronics, and stay updated through official weather sources. A second wave of mixed precipitation is expected to follow Saturday night into Monday, extending the threat of icy conditions into the weekend.
