Chicago, IL — Northern Illinois residents should brace for a soggy end to the workweek as rain and thunderstorms move in Friday morning, bringing gusty winds and a wet weekend ahead.

According to the National Weather Service, rain begins early Friday, with thunderstorms possible by 10 a.m. in the Chicago area. Winds will strengthen throughout the day, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph along major roadways like I-55 and I-90. Drivers should use caution during the morning and afternoon commute due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.

Friday’s high will reach near 75°F before a cold front drops temperatures and increases the chance for additional showers into the evening. Rainfall amounts could be heavy at times, with localized flooding possible in low-lying areas.

The wet pattern continues into Saturday, with an 60% chance of rain and a high near 60°F. Sunday also looks damp, with rain likely and temperatures falling to the mid-50s. Breezy conditions may persist through Sunday evening.

Looking ahead, Monday brings a slight break in precipitation, but clouds linger with a high around 40°F. Rain returns Tuesday and continues into midweek, keeping roads wet and temperatures cooler than seasonal norms.
