Grand Rapids, MI – Rain and patchy fog are expected to impact the Grand Rapids area starting late Thursday night, with heavier showers arriving Friday. Travelers along I-96 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roadways through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, a 20% chance of rain will develop late Thursday before increasing to 80% by Friday. Steady southeast winds, with gusts reaching 20 mph, could further complicate driving conditions. Those traveling for post-Christmas plans are advised to slow down and allow extra time.

Friday will see temperatures rising to a high of 47°F, with rain continuing into the night. Overnight temperatures will hover around 43°F. Saturday will remain damp, with a 70% chance of showers and a high of 52°F.

Sunday will bring some relief, with only a 50% chance of scattered rain and a high near 46°F. However, temperatures will drop significantly by Monday, which will be partly sunny with a low of 34°F and highs near 37°F.

Looking ahead to New Year’s Day, a mix of rain and snow is forecast. While accumulation is not expected to be significant, the wintry conditions could make travel hazardous.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates and take precautions on untreated roads, particularly during early morning and late-night hours.
