Grand Rapids, MI – As New Year’s Day approaches, a mix of rain and snow is expected to move into the Grand Rapids area. This shift in weather conditions may complicate holiday travel plans, especially on untreated roadways.

According to the National Weather Service, New Year’s Day will see temperatures hover near 37°F, with a chance of snow mixing with rain throughout the day. While significant accumulation is not anticipated, slick roads and reduced visibility could create hazardous travel conditions.

The weather system will follow a rainy weekend, with showers expected Friday through Saturday. Sunday will bring a slight break, featuring scattered rain with highs near 46°F. However, temperatures will dip into the mid-30s by Monday, bringing colder air just in time for the holiday.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution, especially during the morning and evening hours when icy patches could develop on untreated surfaces. Residents planning New Year’s festivities or travel are encouraged to check updated forecasts and road conditions before heading out.

The chance of rain and snow persists into Tuesday, with cooler conditions continuing into the first week of January.
