Gaylord, MI – Snowy winter conditions will continue across northern Michigan today and into early this week, with lake effect snow showers lingering Sunday before more widespread snowfall arrives Monday into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord.
Forecasters say Sunday will remain cold, with high temperatures ranging from 20 to 28 degrees. Lake effect snow showers will continue, particularly in areas favored by northwest flow, leading to periodic reductions in visibility and slick road conditions, especially on untreated roads.
Conditions are expected to deteriorate again Monday, as a broader system moves into the region. Widespread light to moderate snow is likely Monday into Tuesday, potentially impacting travel across northern Lower Michigan and eastern Upper Michigan. Highs Monday are forecast to climb slightly into the low to mid-30s.
By Tuesday, snow may taper in coverage, though breezy conditions and isolated freezing drizzle could develop early, keeping roads slick. High temperatures Tuesday are expected to range from 35 to 42 degrees, signaling the beginning of a gradual moderation.
Cloudy but quieter weather is expected Wednesday, with highs remaining in the low to upper 30s, before additional warming pushes temperatures into the 30s and 40s later in the week.
Drivers traveling along US-131, I-75, M-32, and secondary roads across Otsego County, Emmet County, Charlevoix County, Cheboygan County, and surrounding areas should use caution, allow extra travel time, and monitor updated forecasts.
