Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan residents should brace for a prolonged stretch of icy conditions beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, mixed precipitation is expected to move from the southwest to northeast starting Friday. A swath of freezing rain could create hazardous conditions across portions of northern Michigan, particularly in areas where ice accumulation is likely.

Temperatures are forecast to range from the low 30s to upper 40s across the weekend. Friday’s high will range between 32–48°F, followed by 32–50°F on Saturday, and 34–43°F on Sunday. Officials caution that while a brief lull in precipitation may occur Saturday, another round is anticipated by Saturday evening, lasting through Sunday.

The primary concerns include slippery roads, downed tree limbs, and potential power outages from icing. Icing potential appears highest during the overnight and early morning hours, especially in inland and elevated areas.

Residents are urged to monitor updates closely and prepare for possible travel disruptions. Stay off roads if conditions worsen and keep emergency kits in vehicles. The weather service advises checking weather.gov/gaylord for localized alerts and detailed forecasts as updates become available.
