Dodge City, KS – Parts of southwest Kansas may experience weak thunderstorms late Thursday afternoon, with Dodge City and Hays among areas facing a 20–26% chance of storm development.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, storms are expected to occur between 4 and 6 p.m. Thursday if surface temperatures warm sufficiently. Most of the region, including cities like Garden City, Ulysses, and Great Bend, falls within a light purple zone on the forecast map indicating a 1-in-5 chance of weak thunderstorm activity.

The storms, if they form, are expected to be non-severe and bring minimal precipitation or accumulation. Impacts to travel and daily routines should remain low, but brief gusts or isolated lightning cannot be ruled out.

Residents are advised to monitor weather conditions during the late afternoon and early evening hours, especially if outdoors or commuting. While no major disruptions are expected, staying weather-aware during transitional spring conditions is encouraged.

This pattern is typical for early spring in southwest Kansas, where afternoon heating often influences storm development. Forecast updates will continue as conditions evolve, particularly for counties including Ford, Finney, Ellis, and Barton.
