Grand Rapids, Michigan –  Low humidity and gusty southwest winds will combine to create dangerous fire conditions across southwest Michigan Wednesday, with thunderstorms likely by mid-morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, winds could gust up to 35 mph, especially near the lakeshore. Wednesday brings a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m., with some storms capable of producing heavy rainfall and lightning. Local authorities urge residents to check burn restrictions and avoid outdoor burning, grilling, or equipment use that could spark wildfires.

By Wednesday night, rain may continue with a slight dip in temperatures and wind shifting from the north. While no severe weather is currently forecasted, gusty conditions and localized flooding in low-lying areas are possible, particularly along U.S. 131 and I-96 corridors.

Looking ahead, showers could linger into Thursday morning before partial clearing in the afternoon. Friday and Sunday each carry a 30% chance of showers, making outdoor planning tricky. Temperatures will remain mild, with highs mostly in the 70s and lows in the 50s.

Drivers and campers should remain alert for sudden weather changes through the weekend. Thunderstorm chances return Friday into early Monday, especially in western counties like Allegan, Ottawa, and Kent.

The National Weather Service says no spotter activation is needed. However, weather conditions will remain unstable into early next week.
