Detroit, MI – A hot, stormy Wednesday is ahead for Detroit, as thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 28 mph threaten travel and power lines.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, thunderstorms are likely between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday, followed by another round between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. The chance of rain increases to 80% overnight, with totals between a quarter and half an inch possible.

Highs will soar to 89°F across metro Detroit ahead of the storm system. Winds will build through the day, with gusts peaking near 28 mph. These conditions may lead to downed branches, spotty outages, and hazardous travel—especially along I-75 and I-94 during the evening commute.

Low-lying areas and urban intersections could see brief flooding. Residents are advised to avoid flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and keep devices charged in case of outages.

Showers could linger into Thursday and Friday, though rain chances drop to 40%. Temperatures will moderate slightly, staying in the mid-70s with overnight lows in the upper 50s.
