Marquette, MI – Wet snow is expected to hit the Upper Peninsula tonight, with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches possible by Monday morning. Those traveling through high terrain areas west of Marquette should plan for hazardous road conditions, reduced visibility, and icy surfaces.

According to the National Weather Service, the snow will begin late Sunday evening, with steady precipitation continuing into the early morning hours. Gusting winds from the northwest could make conditions even more challenging, particularly on less maintained roads and along stretches of US-41 and M-28.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed and allow extra time for their commute Monday morning. Snow-covered roads could delay travel, especially near Gwinn and L’Anse, where higher snow totals are forecasted. The heaviest snowfall is expected before sunrise, though intermittent snow showers may linger into Monday afternoon.

Looking ahead, temperatures will drop sharply throughout the week, with highs in the 20s on Wednesday and lows plunging into the single digits. Additional snow showers are likely on Tuesday night and Wednesday, potentially adding to already slick roadways.

Residents should prepare now by winterizing vehicles, clearing driveways, and staying updated on weather alerts. Those traveling should monitor local forecasts and consider postponing trips if conditions worsen.
