Grand Rapids, MI – Michigan is set to face challenging weather conditions beginning Monday, with snow showers, freezing drizzle, and plunging temperatures expected to impact the area.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a half-inch to two inches of snow could fall across southwest Michigan by Monday evening. Along with the snow, freezing drizzle may develop during the afternoon, making roads slick and potentially hazardous for drivers on key highways, including I-96 and I-196. South winds of 15 to 25 mph will add to the chill, with wind gusts making temperatures feel even colder.
Residents should prepare for dangerous travel conditions, especially during the evening commute. The NWS advises extra caution when driving and recommends allowing for additional travel time. Drivers should keep an emergency kit in their vehicles, including blankets, water, and flashlights, in case of delays.
Looking ahead, snow showers are likely to persist into Tuesday, with temperatures struggling to rise above 20°F. Wind chills are expected to dip into the single digits, creating frigid conditions for those outdoors. By Wednesday, skies will remain mostly cloudy with high temperatures near 24°F, offering little relief from the cold.
Hazardous weather will continue to threaten travel across Michigan throughout the week. Lake effect snow and drifting conditions are possible through Wednesday night, particularly in areas west of Grand Rapids.
Plan ahead for the upcoming week by limiting unnecessary travel and dressing in layers to stay warm during outdoor activities. Updates will be provided by the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
