Detroit, MI – A mix of snow and freezing rain is expected to impact much of Michigan starting Tuesday night and continuing through early Thursday, with hazardous travel likely north of Interstate 69.

According to the National Weather Service Grand Rapids, there is a significant chance for snow and ice accumulation across the northern and central parts of the state. Alpena faces a 100% chance of receiving at least one inch of snow, while cities like Cadillac (68%) and Grayling (74%) are also likely to see notable snowfall. Grand Rapids faces an 83% chance of .01” or more of ice accumulation.

The Detroit/Pontiac NWS office issued a wintry mix alert for Wednesday morning, with snow expected between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., especially near the Tri-Cities and Thumb regions. Though totals may be limited, even light accumulation could result in slick surfaces during the morning commute.

Travelers are urged to exercise caution, especially in regions such as Bay City, Midland, and Saginaw, where early snowfall may give way to freezing rain before a full changeover to rain later in the day.
