Detroit, Michigan – Strong to severe thunderstorms could disrupt plans across Michigan on Saturday, bringing wind gusts up to 60 mph, large hail, and the risk of isolated tornadoes. The greatest threat stretches from Saturday afternoon into the evening, especially across southern and eastern parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Slight Risk for severe storms covers much of southern Michigan, including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, and Lansing. Instability could be limited by morning rain over Indiana and Ohio, but if storms build during peak heating hours, damaging wind and hail will be the primary hazards. Localized flooding is also possible in areas of heavy rainfall.

Cities like Monroe, Pontiac, and Jackson should prepare for potential downed trees and power outages. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roads and stay alert to rapidly changing conditions. Residents should charge devices, secure loose outdoor items, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Sunday is expected to dry out statewide, with highs near 80 and calmer weather continuing into early next week. Additional alerts may be issued Saturday morning depending on how the storm system evolves.
