Detroit, Michigan – Strong storms could sweep through southeast Michigan by Monday evening, bringing damaging wind gusts and hail to parts of the region, including Detroit, Ann Arbor, and the Thumb.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, there is a marginal risk for severe storms after 6 p.m. Monday, with scattered activity likely increasing overnight. The greatest hazards include wind gusts over 50 mph and quarter-size hail, especially along and south of I-69. Isolated storms may briefly turn severe.
Showers taper off by early Tuesday, though parts of the Thumb could still see afternoon thunder. High temperatures will remain in the 70s through midweek, but a midweek warmup is expected, with highs reaching the mid-80s by Wednesday. Cooler air returns Thursday north of I-69.
Drivers should be alert for sudden downpours and strong wind gusts during evening commutes. Charge electronic devices ahead of time and secure outdoor items that could be blown around.
Storm chances increase again Thursday and Friday, as multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms return. Weather alerts may be issued later this week.
