Marquette, MI – Strong north winds are keeping Lake Superior hazardous today, and Marquette residents should steer clear of beaches until at least 10 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, a Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through Wednesday evening due to life-threatening rip currents, especially near US-41 and commonly accessed points like McCarty’s Cove. Winds from the north will gust up to 25 mph, making conditions risky for swimmers and small craft. Officials urge residents to avoid entering the water and to monitor local alerts.
Skies will stay mostly cloudy through Wednesday with a high near 48°F, keeping daytime temperatures unseasonably cool. Thursday offers partial sun and calmer conditions, though a slight chance of showers may return by Thursday night. Winds will ease but remain breezy.
Looking ahead, Friday holds a 20% chance of isolated showers before 2 p.m., but skies will remain mostly dry through the weekend. Temperatures steadily climb, reaching the low 50s Saturday and mid-50s Sunday.
Memorial Day brings a break from the chill: highs near 57°F and sunny skies hint at a warmer pattern for early summer. Tuesday tops out around 60°F with more sunshine expected.
Key Reminders:
- Avoid Great Lakes beaches today.
- Small watercraft should remain docked.
- Prepare for rising temperatures starting Friday.
