Grand Rapids, Mich. – Residents across northern Michigan should prepare for a sharp temperature drop overnight, with frost likely to develop after 2 a.m., especially near and north of US-10. Gardeners and farmers are urged to protect tender vegetation before nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, temperatures are expected to fall below 36 degrees in several areas, with frost chances reaching up to 60% in parts of the Thumb region, including Bad Axe, Caro, and Sandusky. Locations along US-10, such as Big Rapids, Cadillac, and Clare, face a 30% to 40% chance of frost through early Sunday morning.

Drivers traveling overnight should also be cautious, as frost could lead to slick spots on bridges and overpasses. Homeowners are encouraged to cover plants or bring them indoors to prevent damage.

This cold snap comes as an unseasonable chill settles over the region, a reminder that Michigan’s spring weather can turn quickly. Frost advisories remain in effect through sunrise, with warmer temperatures expected to return later Sunday.
