Gaylord, MI — Northern Michigan residents should brace for a dangerous mix of freezing rain, snow, and thunderstorms beginning Wednesday afternoon and lasting into early Thursday. The storm system is expected to impact daily life, especially for those in Gaylord and surrounding communities along Route 32.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a wintry mix will begin late Wednesday afternoon, with freezing rain becoming more intense after 5 p.m. A secondary round of thunderstorms could follow between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., bringing wind gusts as high as 35 mph. Hail is possible, and isolated power outages may occur—especially in areas still recovering from last weekend’s ice storm.

Travelers should avoid unnecessary trips on icy roads, particularly along Route 32 and in areas such as Otsego, Antrim, and Cheboygan counties. Driving could become dangerous due to slick conditions and poor visibility. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for potential service disruptions.

Temperatures will rise slightly Wednesday, peaking at 35°F before dipping into the low 30s overnight. The area could receive up to a quarter-inch of ice and minor snow accumulation.
