Marquette, MI – Michigan residents are bracing for dangerously cold conditions as a Cold Weather Advisory takes effect this weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that wind chills may plunge to as low as 35 below zero, creating frostbite risks within 10 minutes of exposure.

According to the NWS, the advisory begins at 9 p.m. Saturday and remains in place through 9 p.m. Monday for Iron and Gogebic counties. Additional counties across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, including Marquette and Houghton, will also experience similar conditions. The cold front will be accompanied by strong winds and subzero temperatures.

Frostbite and hypothermia are significant risks under these conditions, officials noted. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, bundle up with layers, and ensure exposed skin is covered. Travel may also become hazardous, especially for those unprepared for prolonged exposure to the elements.

The NWS stated that an Extreme Cold Warning may follow for Monday night into Tuesday morning, potentially signaling even colder conditions ahead. Residents are advised to monitor updates and prepare accordingly.
