Detroit, Michigan – High heat and gusty winds will grip Southeast Michigan on Tuesday, June 3rd, with storms arriving by midweek and air quality potentially declining.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, partly sunny skies and a high near 87°F are expected Tuesday, with wind gusts up to 25 mph by afternoon. Though Tuesday stays dry, showers and possible thunderstorms are likely after 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 70% chance of rain extending into early Thursday.

Drivers on I-94 and I-75 should prepare for reduced visibility from wildfire haze and strong wind bursts during peak commuting hours Tuesday. South-southwest winds will increase to 15 mph, with gusts reaching up to 25 mph during the late morning and early afternoon.

By Wednesday, conditions turn more unstable. A 50% chance of showers begins after 2 p.m., followed by heavier rain and possible storms overnight. The heaviest rainfall is expected between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 a.m. Thursday. Localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas, especially during overnight hours.

Thursday remains unsettled, with continued showers and a high of 76°F. Air quality may deteriorate during this period due to lingering wildfire smoke from Canada, so those with respiratory conditions should limit outdoor activity.
