Grand Rapids, Michigan – Thunderstorms are sweeping through Grand Rapids today with more rain on the way Friday, prompting drivers to brace for slick roads and gusty winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, scattered thunderstorms will persist through Thursday afternoon, followed by a chance of more storms before 11 p.m. Some wind gusts could reach up to 22 mph, and minor street flooding is possible in low-lying areas. By Friday morning, a second round of showers and storms may roll in between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. along the I-96 corridor. Commuters should plan for wet pavement and slower travel during peak hours.

Although Thursday’s storms are not expected to be severe, residents should stay weather-aware and avoid outdoor activities during lightning threats. Rainfall totals could range from half an inch to over three-quarters of an inch today alone.

The weekend brings a shift in the spring pattern. Saturday and Sunday will be dry with daytime highs reaching into the low to mid 60s. Sunshine returns Saturday afternoon, giving a break from the wet stretch.
