Carter Lake, Iowa – A quick-hitting round of rain and gusty thunderstorms will impact Carter Lake and nearby areas Friday, just as May begins to warm up across Iowa.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, a 50% chance of storms is expected Friday, with winds shifting northwest and gusting up to 17 mph by afternoon. Showers could begin before 1 p.m., following Thursday morning fog that may reduce visibility near I-29 and other major roads. Travelers should plan for slower commutes and allow extra time, especially early Thursday and midday Friday.

Skies begin to clear by Friday night, with a stretch of dry, sunny spring weather returning just in time for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday bring highs in the low to mid-70s and calm winds, making for ideal outdoor conditions across Carter Lake, Council Bluffs, and the Omaha metro.

Temperatures continue climbing into next week, hitting near 77°F by Monday and approaching 80°F by Wednesday. While this warming trend offers a break from recent storms, scattered showers could return late Tuesday into Wednesday, paired with wind gusts near 18 mph.
