Marquette, MI – A powerful low-pressure system will bring a mix of rain, snow, and strong winds to Upper Michigan starting Tuesday night, with hazardous travel conditions expected through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, precipitation will begin as rain Tuesday evening before transitioning to heavy snow overnight. Snowfall totals remain uncertain, but forecasters warn of significant accumulation and blowing snow, especially in western and central Upper Michigan. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph, reducing visibility and making travel dangerous on major routes, including U.S. Highway 41 and M-28.

By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures will drop to the mid-20s, allowing snow to stick and accumulate further. The combination of wet snow and wind may also cause power outages. Drivers should prepare for slick roads, especially during the Wednesday morning commute.

Beyond Wednesday, temperatures will remain below normal for early March. Thursday and Friday will see highs in the low 30s with lingering snow showers. By Saturday, skies clear slightly, but another chance of light snow returns Sunday.

Residents should monitor updates from the NWS and prepare for shifting conditions. If travel is necessary, allow extra time and pack emergency supplies.
