Marquette, MI – Snow showers are expected to persist across Upper Michigan on Tuesday, creating potentially hazardous road conditions and limited visibility. Residents are urged to exercise caution during travel, especially along Highway M-28, where lake-effect snow will reduce visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered lake-effect snow will affect areas west of Marquette through this afternoon. Snowfall will remain light, with total accumulation reaching only one to two inches by evening. Northwest winds will add to the cold, with wind chills dipping into the low 20s.

Tonight, snow showers are forecast to intensify briefly as a quick-moving system moves through the area. Temperatures will fall to between 14 and 28 degrees, with the coldest conditions in western Marquette County. Roads could refreeze overnight, making morning travel potentially slippery.

Looking ahead, New Year’s Day on Wednesday will see scattered snow showers, particularly before 9 a.m., followed by mostly cloudy skies. Highs will hover near 28 degrees, but wind gusts up to 20 mph will keep conditions brisk. The remainder of the week is expected to feature a mix of snow showers and frigid temperatures, with highs dropping to the teens by Friday.

Drivers should monitor local weather updates and consider delaying nonessential travel. Be sure to dress in layers if venturing outdoors and ensure vehicles are winter-ready.
