Marquette, Mich. – Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged across Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula Monday as critical fire conditions take hold from late morning through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Red Flag Warning will be in effect from noon to 10 p.m. EDT Monday for Keweenaw, Houghton, Marquette, Gogebic, Dickinson, Menominee, and surrounding counties. Southwest winds of 20–30 mph, humidity dropping into the teens, and temperatures surging into the 80s and low 90s will combine to create a highly volatile fire environment.

Communities from Ironwood to Iron Mountain could see rapid fire spread if even a single spark escapes. Officials warn that campfires, fireworks, chainsaws, and even ATVs could trigger fast-moving wildfires.

With no significant rain in the forecast, fuels remain exceptionally dry across the region. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, extinguish cigarettes safely, and delay use of any fire-prone equipment.

This is the third Red Flag Warning issued this season for parts of Upper Michigan. Emergency officials will continue to monitor conditions closely.

Warnings remain in effect through 10 p.m. EDT Monday. Additional advisories may be issued if winds strengthen.
