Detroit, Michigan – Thunderstorms will roll across southeast Michigan late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with Detroit and surrounding suburbs bracing for heavy rain and gusty winds during the early commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, strong storms could develop along the I-75 corridor after 9 p.m. Wednesday, continuing into Thursday morning. Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties are most at risk for localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas. The highest rain chance—80%—is expected before midnight. Rainfall may total up to an inch in some spots.

Motorists should use caution Thursday morning, especially near construction zones and highway underpasses prone to ponding. Winds could gust up to 25 mph, particularly in open areas and near Lake St. Clair. Although severe storms are not anticipated, the threat of lightning and slick roadways could cause delays.

Scattered showers may linger through Thursday afternoon, but conditions begin to stabilize by Thursday night. Friday brings drier air with highs near 77°F and only a 30% rain chance in the early afternoon. Sunshine dominates the weekend, with highs climbing to 87°F by Sunday.
