Detroit, MI – Boat owners and anglers along Michigan’s Lake Huron shoreline face dangerous boating conditions through Saturday night as strong winds drive up wave heights across the region.

According to the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect for Lake Huron’s nearshore waters, including both the Outer Saginaw Bay to Harbor Beach (from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday) and the Inner Saginaw & Harbor Beach to Port Huron corridor (from 2 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday). Northerly winds will sustain at 15 to 20 knots, with gusts peaking near 30 knots, producing significant waves of 3 to 5 feet and isolated crests up to 8 feet.

Areas from Bay City and Port Austin to Harbor Beach and Port Huron are expected to see the roughest conditions. Small vessels are especially vulnerable to capsizing or swamping in these waves. Boaters are urged to postpone outings, secure loose gear, and wear life jackets at all times.

The advisory covers both leisure and commercial marine traffic on Lake Huron, St. Clair, and Michigan waters of Erie. Conditions should improve late Saturday night, but further advisories may be issued if high winds persist.
