Lake County, MI – Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office pursued and arrested a suspect wanted for questioning in an infant homicide early Monday. At 7:20 a.m., deputies received a Be-On-The-Lookout (BOL) alert that the suspect, tied to an infant’s death in St. Joseph County, was traveling to Lake County. Reports indicated the vehicle might contain two other children, ages one and three.
According to Lake County sheriffs reports, a deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, on M-37 shortly after 8 a.m. and attempted a traffic stop. However, the suspect failed to yield, initiating a brief pursuit. Deputies deployed stop sticks, which punctured the tires but did not halt the vehicle. The suspect eventually drove to a residence on 40th Street, where deputies apprehended him. The two children in the vehicle were unharmed and handed over to Child Protective Services.
Authorities identified the suspect as a 36-year-old man from Three Rivers. He now faces charges for fleeing and eluding and driving with a suspended license. According to Sheriff Rich Martin, he remains in Lake County Jail but will soon transfer to St. Joseph County for further questioning and to face additional charges.
