Michigan Man, Felony Suspect, Fleeing Police Takes His Own Life After Reported Domestic Disturbance

Albion, MI — A 28-year-old suspect from Homer Township reportedly died by suicide after fleeing a domestic disturbance Wednesday. Albion Department of Public Safety officers responded to the scene around 12:48 p.m., but the suspect fled before their arrival.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect had an outstanding felony warrant for assault. Deputies tracked him to his residence on P Drive South in Homer Township. At approximately 1:14 p.m., a deputy spotted him arriving home, but he fled into a nearby cornfield.

A drone and K9 unit joined the search. A private citizen later reported seeing the suspect, armed, running between fields. The search ended near the intersection of 25 1/2 Mile Road and R Drive South, where the suspect fired a single shot and died by suicide.

Calhoun County detectives are investigating. Multiple agencies, including the Michigan State Police and local fire departments, assisted in the search.
