Harrison Township, MI – A Ray Township man was arrested early Friday after allegedly leading Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase before fleeing on foot.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. on March 14 when a deputy observed a black BMW X5 cross the centerline near eastbound I-94 and Metropolitan Parkway. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed the owner had an active fraud warrant.
Deputies attempted to pull over the driver, identified as 39-year-old Daniele Giannone, but he allegedly ignored lights and sirens, reaching speeds over 60 mph before exiting onto William P. Rosso Highway. The pursuit continued through Chesterfield Township before Giannone allegedly abandoned the vehicle behind an industrial complex and attempted to flee on foot. Deputies apprehended him shortly after.
Giannone was charged with third-degree fleeing and eluding, two counts of controlled substance possession, and resisting arrest. He was given a $20,000 personal bond.
On March 17, he was arraigned at 41A District Court in Shelby Township on additional charges, including failure to stop at an accident and operating a vehicle without security or proper registration.
