Michigan Man Armed with Chainsaw Taken into Custody After Standoff in Sheridan Township

Sheridan Township, MI – A Sheridan Township man was taken into custody Monday after deputies responded to a report of an armed, suicidal individual.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at the 2000 block of E. Michigan Avenue around 2:45 p.m. The 30-year-old man was intoxicated and holding a running chainsaw. He made threats toward officers and requested “suicide by cop.”

Deputies immediately began negotiations to de-escalate the situation. The chainsaw eventually stopped running, allowing deputies to safely take the man into protective custody. He was transported to a medical facility for psychiatric evaluation.
