Jefferson Township, MI – A South Bend man was injured in a motorcycle crash in Jefferson Township early Thursday morning.

According to Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident at approximately 6:32 a.m. on M62 Hwy and Brick Church Rd. The investigation revealed that Isaac Hunt, 56, lost control of his motorcycle in foggy conditions while navigating a curve, causing him to lay the bike down on the pavement.

Hunt was transported to Borgess Lee Dowagiac Hospital for his injuries. Cassopolis Fire Department and SMCAS Ambulance assisted at the scene. Authorities confirmed that alcohol was not a factor and Hunt was not wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation.

Foggy conditions were a significant factor in the crash, emphasizing the need for caution when driving in reduced visibility. Motorcycle accidents are particularly dangerous, and the lack of a helmet can increase the risk of severe injury. Local authorities are reminding all motorists to exercise increased vigilance under such weather conditions.

Motorcyclists are encouraged to wear helmets and other protective gear to minimize injury risks. This incident highlights the unpredictable nature of driving in fog and the importance of safety measures for all road users. As the investigation continues, deputies will examine all aspects of the crash to prevent future occurrences.
